Endocannabinoid system
The endocannabinoid system is a system of receptors in the brain and throughout the body that respond to compounds in cannabis such as THC. The human body naturally produces endocannabinoid molecules and similar molecules are also found in cannabis - cannabinoids. When inhaled or ingested, these cannabinoids - like CBD and THC - interact with the endocannabinoid system to produce many different effects, including pleasurable euphoria and relief from pain and inflammation.
