Terpenes
Terpenes are aromatic compounds that give individual cannabis strains their unique scent. Just as different essential oils have different uses, so do cannabis terpenes. The most common terpenes are myrcene, caryophyllene or limonene. Scientific research into the effects of terpenes is still ongoing, but their isolation has identified possible theoretical effects: for example, myrcene induces a relaxing mood, limonene relieves stress and pinene helps to relieve pain and anxiety. Terpenes are the reason why the Tangie variety smells like sweet oranges or Permafrost like a pine forest.
